"A Prayer for Mom" (2015)
Proverbs 31:28 - “Her children rise and call her blessed
Her husband also, and he praises her”

Lyrics
Peace, deep peace

May the waves of heaven's shores crash gently on your feet
And the fine sea mist fall fresh upon your face
May an ocean of love surround you
As you feel the warmth of God’s embrace

May your brushstrokes fill the skies
As you worship your Creator
Sunrise and sunsets, autumn and spring
Paint the colours, we’ll see you in everything

May the glory of God shine upon you
And may He grant you His everlasting peace

Peace, peace, peace

"Lord Bless This Day" (2016)
With excerpts from Proverbs 3:3, Psalm 90:17,
1 Corinthians 13:4-8, and Ephesians 4:1-3

Lyrics
Lord, bless this day
Lord, bless this day
As You join two hearts together
Join two lives as one
Oh, Lord, we pray
Bless this day

Let love and faithfulness never leave us
Write them deep within our hearts
May the favour of God rest upon us;
And establish the work of our hands

Love bears all things
Believes all things
It is patient and kind
Does not envy or boast
Love hopes all things
Endures all things
Love never ends

Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

"Psalm 145" (2014)
Dedicated to the 2014 Matrics of the Chapel Choir,
for their contribution to choral music at Bishops

Lyrics
I will exalt You my God and King
And I will praise Your name forever and ever
And every day I will praise You
Praise and extol Your name forever and ever

I will exalt You, I will exalt You
I will exalt You my God and King
And I will praise, and I will praise
Your name forever and ever

Great is the Lord, most worthy of praise
None can fathom His greatness
I will exalt You my God and King

The Lord is gracious and compassionate
Slow to anger and rich in love
The Lord is good to all
He has compassion on all He has made

All Your works will praise You
Your faithful people extol You
Your kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom
And Your dominium endures throughout all generations

My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord
Let every creature praise His holy name forever

"Phoenix" (2004)
For brass band, percussion and solo piccolo trumpet

PROGRAMME NOTES
Inspired by the myth of the Phoenix: just as the bird is said to die by fire and from it's ashes is re-born, so too, this piece reaches its end and gradually from the "ashes" is reconstructed.

The main theme represents the bird in flight, and the slow chorale section represents the end of the bird's life. Short jabs (played by the trumpets) depict its last flutters of life. The gong at the end of this section brings its life-cycle to an end. The canonic writing that follows, symbolises the reconstruction of the Phoenix, and this section accelerates towards the re-introduction of the theme which emerges revitalised (up a tone), with greater driving force provided by the percussion, and depicts the creature renewed and soaring in flight.

"Light of the Stars" (2004)
Words by William Henry Furness

Lyrics
Slowly, by God’s hand unfurled,
Down around the weary world
Falls the darkness; O, how still
Is the working of His will!

Mighty spirit, ever nigh!
Work in me as silently;
Veil the day’s distracting sights,
Show me heaven’s eternal lights.

Living stars to view be brought
In the boundless realms of thought;
High and infinite desires,
Flaming like those upper fires!

Holy Truth, Eternal Right,
Let them break upon my sight;
Let them shine serene and still,
And with light my being fill.

"Love's Secret" (2004)
Words by William Blake

Lyrics
Never seek to tell thy love,
Love that never told can be;
For the gentle wind doth move
Silently, invisibly.

I told my love, I told my love,
I told her all my heart,
Trembling, cold, in ghastly fears.
Ah! she did depart!

Soon after she was gone from me,
A traveller came by,
Silently, invisibly:
He took her with a sigh.
